Internet Arcade

First level of Space Invader DX

For my first experience, I decided to pick a game I am already familiar with and that would not require the use of a mouse since I do not have one. The retro game I choose is Space Invader DX, published by the Taito Corporation in 1994. This version of Space Invader is a remake of the original game but with new game modes and different screen types. I initially had trouble with learning the new control due to them not being present in the game description. It wasn’t until I discovered the in game menu 10 minutes later that I learned how to play the game through the Internet Arcade. Afterward, playing the game became relatively simple, though the system was not as responsive to commands. I ended up losing a life more consistently due to the fact that the player ship didn’t move as quickly as I pressed the button nor did the shooting hit the location I was aiming. Compared to a physical game cabinet, this version becomes rather clunky. Not at all as responsive or accurate as playing the game on the original hardware. The only upside is that it becomes more portable and continues to exist long after the last of the arcade cabinets go away.
